mean men, its profundity, its wisdom, its health, its robustness, its hopefulness, its generosity, its sum-total of all perfection, can any be found to rebuke us for our love ? Yes. Unfortunately there are men so degraded and inhuman as not only to reject it themselves but to attempt also to prevent others from proving its goodness. The political mind, which can only find a complex solution (which by the way never does solve) for what it euphemistically terms the " drink problem," always misses what is direct and effective. For when such a mind in its blundering yet sophisticated way perceives that harm is often brought to the poor of our slums by their drinking bad beer, it fatuously proceeds in the holy name of Social Reform to set wrong right by making beer worse and by forbidding the poor to treat their friends in a pub !
Damn their eyes if ever they tries To rob a poor man of his beer— For I likes a drop of good beer.
